Nonie and Pops celebrated 40 years of marriage last month. Our 2nd Annual Formal Anniversary Dinner had to be postponed one month because their April calendar was busy. The kids were so excited to serve them a "fancy" meal on china in our dining room. They were greeted at the door in a most formal manner, seated at the candlelit table with napkins placed in their laps. The 2 eldest waiters served them sparkling apple cider and water while the younger waiters delivered their ham and corn chowder with rolls. Next on the menu was a Mandarin Walnut Salad with homemade vinaigrette. For the main course they received filet mignon, loaded baked potatoes, and creamed spinach. Dessert brought coffee and berry cheesecake parfait. They were well taken care of as each of the 5 waiters (especially the older 2) checked on them between every bite to make sure their drinks were filled and to see if they ready for the next course. Finally the master chef had to put a halt to the care they were giving. ("Let them EAT! You are driving them crazy!")
After they were fully stuffed, they were moved into the back porch where each Fish Stick performed for them. Caleb and Anna Blair sang Psalm 100, Leah recited a poem along with sign language, Ruth sang Five Brown Buns and Josiah belted out Jesus Loves Me. Although Lydia is not quite old enough to perform, she did plenty of screaming, interrupting and babbling for her uninvited performance.
And last, they were taken inside once again to hear Anna Blair and Leah perform a piece on the piano. What a joy it was to serve them and honor them for 40 years of marital bliss. We love you, Nonie and Pops, and are so blessed to have you as godly examples through your marriage.
